Since 2019, the Information and Research Center - King Hussein Foundation has been working on the Inclusion of Stipulations in Islamic Marriage Contracts Study, to demonstrate the right of both women and men to include stipulations in marriage contracts. A special study was conducted to review the Shariah rules and the legal and administrative regulation of the stipulation associated with marriage contracts. In addition, a “quantitative” survey was conducted across Jordan, which included (2612) male and female respondents, on the knowledge of the inclusion of stipulations in marriage contracts, and perceptions and practices regarding including stipulations in marriage contracts. This was followed by a qualitative study targeting all governorates, including (38) focus group discussions and in-depth interviews.
The project aims to: launch two awareness and advocacy campaigns side by side to reach the consolidation, stability, and sustainability of marriages and the family, and the clarity of the marital relationship, and to enhance knowledge and societal awareness towards the inclusion of stipulations in marriage contracts, correct misconceptions about them and affirm the right of both women and men to include stipulations in marriage contracts.
