Tafilah, Jordan. Under the esteemed patronage of Mr. Imad Al-Rawashdeh, the Governor of Tafilah, the Information and Research Center – King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF), in partnership with UN Women and the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), today launched a series of advocacy campaigns on women’s empowerment developed by seven women’s Community-based Organizations (CBOs) in Tafilah. Over a period of six months, joint advocacy efforts will address challenges and opportunities faced by women and girls in their communities, including access to quality health services, public transportation, and management of financial resources.
Each campaign has been designed based on the findings of baseline assessment conducted by IRCKHF in the field, which highlighted women’s economic empowerment as a priority area for action in Tafilah. The collaboration with JNCW has been instrumental in building the capacity of partner CBOs to develop and conduct gender advocacy campaigns, write policy papers, and monitor and evaluate the outcomes of their campaigns.
As part of the IRCKHF’s programme ‘Empowering the Women of Tafilah through Gender Advocacy and Civic Engagement’, an information technology station will be also established in Tafilah to facilitate access to information among women living in remote areas as well as to strengthen their civic engagement. During the launch event, members of the municipality, local community and the public and private sectors had the opportunity to learn more about each advocacy campaign and which one they will be engaged on advocacy activities with the seven participating CBOs, with the aim of strengthening the gender sensitivity of policies and development plans at the local level. Participating CBOs include: Al-Hasa Charitable Society, Basha’er Ar-rahman Society, Buseira Society for Women, Women of Tafilah Association, Ain Al-Bayda Society, Hibat Allah Society, and the Princess Basma Center.
