This qualitative study was conducted by IRCKHF in collaboration with Save the Children International, and it was published in 2013. The purpose of this research was to explore the phenomenon of homebound girls in Jordan and to understand the reasons that have led to their confinement. Some of the research questions looked at the reasons behind removing girls from school and keeping them at home, their daily routine, external and internal mobility, social interactions, and their dreams and aspirations. The project adopted a qualitative methodology and was based on in-depth interviews with homebound girls and their mothers in four target areas: Marka, Mafraq, Ma’an and Zarqa. The overall objective of the project was to identify possible interventions to allow these girls access to education and to strengthen their social development.
