The Path to Active Citizenship in Jordan

The Path to Active Citizenship in Jordan

Under the auspices of the European Union and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the IRCKHF explored the civic engagement of one of Jordan’s most at-risk populations – its youth.
Through a background paper based on a compilation of desk research, focus group discussions with youth in various regions of Jordan, and interviews with key organizations engaging youth across the Kingdom, the IRCKHF outlined the fundamental skills necessary for active citizenship, explored the path to the acquisition of these skills in Jordanian society, and identified the barriers that potentially prevent youth in Jordan from fully engaging as active citizens. By additionally examining the available institutional, formal, or non-formal framework for youth participation, this project highlighted the past and present successes (At that time) of youth engagement in Jordan along with, and perhaps more importantly, the areas for improvement.
