Empowering Civil Society through Community Media

In collaboration with the Community Media Network (CMN), and Sisterhood is Global Institute - Jordan (SIGI), the Information and Research Center – King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF) is conducting a project funded by the EU called “Your Voice is Your Identity” and the need for a “Just Broadcast that Serves the Community and the Nation.”

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, consolidating political participation and representation and having particular regard to women’s rights.

In this project, IRCKHF is responsible for monitoring over a 28-month period of how gender issues are covered online, in the broadcast media and in newspapers; Petra, Ad Dustour, Al Ghad, Ammoun, Khabirni, Farah Al Nas and Hala FM. IRCKHF is using the UNESCO indicators of gender equality in the media and publishing quarterly reports.

This will contribute to the awareness of the target groups and will deliver direct benefits to women as final beneficiaries through better more gender sensitive content.
